Aeroplan details 2027 Head Start status-credit benefit for premium cardholders

What changed, why it matters, and what leaders should watch.
What changed
In its September 18 Elite update, Aeroplan said eligible primary holders of an Aeroplan premium credit card who hold 25K status or higher on February 15, 2027 will receive Status Qualifying Credits equal to 10% of the SQC they earned in 2026, with no cap. To receive the first annual Head Start award, the member must be an active primary premium-card holder by December 15, 2026; the update also sets a December 30 deadline for selecting 2026 bonus SQC milestone benefits.
Loyalty and rewards implications
The benefit makes premium-card retention and airline-status retention mutually reinforcing by carrying a portion of prior-year qualification progress into the next earning cycle. Banks and credit unions should note how a clearly defined eligibility date and a progress-based reward can reinforce a higher-value product relationship, while ensuring that tier rules, qualification timing, and member communications remain easy to understand.
