KOHO plans to use Real-Time Rail economics to improve cash back and pricing

Development analysis

What changed, why it matters, and what leaders should watch.

What changed

Payments Canada reported that KOHO is eligible to apply for direct participation in Canada's national payment systems and is applying to participate in the forthcoming Real-Time Rail. KOHO said direct access should provide faster access to funds, improve reliability and lower payment costs.

Loyalty and rewards implications

KOHO explicitly identified higher cash back, better savings rates and lower fees as potential uses for the improved economics. Credit unions will need flexible, transaction-triggered incentives to translate payment modernization into visible member value and defend primary-account activity.
