U.S. Bank launches Business Essentials cards with relationship-linked cash-back boosts
Development analysis
What changed, why it matters, and what leaders should watch.
What changed
U.S. Bank launched the no-fee Business Essentials Visa and $295 annual-fee Business Essentials Plus Visa Signature cards on September 28. Both earn unlimited 2% cash back, with qualifying business-checking balances lifting the rate to as much as 2.5% or 3.5%; Plus also earns 5% on the top spend category up to $200,000 annually.
Loyalty and rewards implications
U.S. Bank is using card rewards and redemption into business checking to make deeper banking relationships visibly more valuable. Banks and credit unions can use relationship-based reward uplifts to encourage primary operating-account adoption, but should keep balance thresholds, qualifying behaviors, and redemption value straightforward for small businesses.
